12-Point Cells

Tom Krajci and Jeff Anderson-Lee have invented several 12-Point cell layouts. Jeff put together a web page with all the layouts, including Plop setup (.gr) files for each. With Jeff's permission, that page is reproduced here. Jeff's 12-Point Cell Page

I hope to tabulate some examples of 12-point cells worked out for different size mirrors, but that will take me some time. For now, If you are interested in one of these, and do not feel up to doing the Plop work yourself, please contact me (Mark Holm)

I think that some 12-Point cells may be superior to most Plop optimized 9-point cells in one respect. Most of the Plop optimized 9-point cells have very narrow triangles. These narrow triangles are probably quite sensitive to the exact placement of the pivot point. A little error in the metal working might have fairly large effects on cell performance. Several of the 12-point designs have only bars pivoted at their midpoints, or nearly equilateral triangles, also pivoted near their midpoints. these should be less sensitive to small construction errors.
