Readme file for InvRon.exe installation package. InvRon.exe, InvRonHelp*.htm and this file are Copyright (C) 2001 by Mark D. Holm. InvRon is distributed under the GNU General Public License. See InvRonHelp.html for details. InvRon.exe runs on Windows 95 and higher. It computes and prints Inverse Ronchi gratings which are used for testing the shape of telescope mirrors. The installation package is usually distributed as a .zip file named InvRon.zip. The zip file for version 1.1.13 is 1,787,011 bytes long. It contains the following 18 files: File Name Description Source AsycFilt.dl_ Compressed version of AsycFilt.dll Microsoft ComCat.dl_ Compressed version of ComCat.dll Microsoft Ctl3d32.dl_ Compressed version of Ctl3d32.dll Microsoft InvRon.ex_ Compressed version of InvRon.exe Mark Holm InvRonHelpFrames.ht_ Frameset for help file (compressed) Mark Holm InvRonHelpText.ht_ Text of help file (compressed) Mark Holm InvRonHelpTOC.ht_ Table of contents for help file (compressed) Mark Holm MSVBVM50.dl_ Compressed version of MSVBVM50.dll Microsoft OleAut32.dl_ Compressed version of OleAut32.dll Microsoft OlePro32.dl_ Compressed version of OlePro32.dll Microsoft Readme.txt This file Mark Holm Setup.exe Installer program Microsoft Setup.lst Information for installer program Microsoft setup1.ex_ Compressed version of setup1.exe Microsoft St5unst.ex_ Compressed version of St5unst.exe Microsoft StdOle2.tl_ Compressed version of StdOle2.tlb Microsoft SWIFTPRINT.OC_ Compressed version of SWIFTPRINT.OCX Brodie Thiesfield VB5StKit.dl_ Compressed version of VB5StKit.dll Microsoft Use WinZip, or another of the .zip capable utilities to expand the .zip file into a folder (directory) from which Setup.exe can run. Start Setup.exe. Setup should uncompress and install all of the files. InvRonHelp.html needs to go in the same folder as InvRon.exe. InvRon uses a freeware printer control called SwiftPrint. SwiftPrint in turn uses subroutines from the Microsoft Foundation Classes library version 4.2 (MFC). Many programs use MFC subroutines, however, at least as of Windows 98, the MFC routines are not usually included with a normal Windows installation. Your system may already have them as a result of installing another program. If your system does not have them, you will see errors when you try to install InvRon. The errors will refer to swiftprint.ocx You can download the necessary files from various sites. Here are two: http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000023982 This is a .zip file named mfc42.zip. You will need to uncompress it into an empty folder using WinZip, or a similar utility capable of uncompressing .zip files. Then run the program Setup.exe in that folder. It installs the MFC files if you do not already have them. The two files installed are MFC42.DLL & MSVCRT.DLL. They will be installed in your C:/Windows/System folder. (File length 1.9Mb.) http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/fortune/570/mfc42.html for mfc42.dll. and http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/fortune/570/msvcrt.html for msvcrt.dll. To install these DLL's, 1. download the zip file, 2. decompress it into a temporary location, 3. move the resulting DLL to the system directory under the windows directory c:\windows\system on most computers), 4. and delete the zip file. Once you have installed the MFC files, you can delete the .zip files and the setup files. With the MFC files installed, rerun the InvRon Setup.exe to get SwiftPrint properly installed. SWIFTPRINT.OCX is a freeware printer utility for Visual Basic programs. It was written by Brodie Thiesfield and is distributed under the GNU General Public License. InvRon.exe uses Swiftprint for all of its printer output. For more about SwiftPrint see http://www.ecn.net.au/~brodie/swiftprint The Microsoft files are auxillary Visual Basic files needed for InvRon to run, installation programs for Invron and the other files, and an uninstall program. If you install InvRon, and later decide you don't want it, the uninstall program should remove it cleanly. Unlike most Windows help files, the help file for InvRon is formatted with HTML. This means it will open in your default browser instead of Windows help program. The version of the help file that comes with the installation package uses frames. The table of contents is displayed in an upper frame. The text is displayed in a lower frame. This requires that the help file is actually three files, one for the framset, one for the table of contents and one for the text. All three of these files need to be placed in the same folder with InvRon.exe The installer should put them there. If you don't like frames, or your browser won't display them properly, I have prepared a no-frames version called InvRonHelpNoFrames.htm. It is available at the same web site as InvRon.Zip Delete or rename the three frames version files and install InvRonHelpNoFrames.htm in the same directory with InvRon.exe If you have problems, contact me at mdholm@telerama.com If you can not contact me at this address, try joining the ATM mailing list and asking for me there. As per the GNU General Public License, source code for InvRon is available. It is written in Visual Basic 5. E-mail me if you want it. Mark Holm
