Click to enlarge The spring tensioners are hooked up and trial fitting of the belts is now being done. The belt driving the eccentric was 2" too long so off to the shop to get the right size belt again. One problem I found was the height of the pulley hubs. When I hooked up the belts and pulleys I found that I was unable to move the overarm assembly over the shaft as the pulleys were getting in the way due to the thickness of the hub. Alby to the rescue again. As can be seen in the photo, he turned the hub down and replaced the grub screws in these 2 pulleys. Now the overarm just clears the shaft and pulleys.

The overarm assembly is now in place on the base.

A good view of the eccentric drive rod hooked up at both ends. The hinge in the backgroud is the best that I have been able to come up with. It has roller bearings so there is no slop or play in the hinge. This was used as I have not been able to source the hinges that Dennis specifies in his plans for the Mirror O Matic.

A reverse view of the overarm assembly. So far everything works fine.

John was not able to source a 1/4 hp 1725 rpm motor as called for in the plans. John did manage to get though, a 1440 rpm 600 watt motor. He reckons that should be able to handle the sizes we want to grind. Due to the lower rpm of the motor, it was suggested by Dennis that if I increase the motor shaft pulley from 1.5" to a 2" pulley this would give similar speeds. If it was smaller it would just take longer to do the job. In the table shown I have listed the machine speeds as originally specified by Dennis and my machines speeds with both size pulleys.
