Dear ATMswap list:
I have a freind who is a surplus dealer, he is going out of business. He
accquired many pieces of ITEK surplus some years ago and I have been helping
him sell some off on Ebay and Astromart off and on for the last few years.
He recently uncovered this odd piece from his storage barn:
My source dug up another old ITEK oddity, a 28" diameter metallic flat
mirror. It is very light most likely some type of stainless, it seems too
heavy to be berylium and too hard to be some alluminum or magnesium alloy.
Originally it was completely covered with that thin blue "plastic"
protective coating, but allas too many years in a New England barn has taken
its toll on the polished surface. The (blue) coating remains in about 50%
of the mirror, the exposed surfaces are "tarnished" but not pitted or
rusted. It is about 4.5" thick, and mounted to a "yoke" (from some original
"gimball" arrangement). The substrate was cast with internal cavities and
ribbing to reduce weight but maintain stiffness..
