I tried to sell this mirror on Astromart a few weeks ago. I got a buyer,
but he finally "didn't realize the thing weighed 50 lbs, you didn't tell
me!" And he backed out late in the game -- this happens a lot on Astromart.
So if anybody's interested, this a very nice 20.15", 2" thick, ~f6.05, fine
annealed mirror made from a United Lens blank. I still have the
certifications And yes, it weighs 50 lbs. It's got about a 3/16" turned
edge all the way around -- the edge is too turned to even begin to hope to
polish out, but it is also very local, more like a large bevel than a
extended rolled edge. The central 19.75" diameter "clear aperture" is
really quite nice, I am sure you would get at least 1/10 wave or much better
from Tex, no problem. There are no scratches (that I can notice on careful
inspection), no fractures, etc. There are a few edge chips that don't
extend past the bevel. The polish is excellent.
I paid ~$1100 for the blank. I'll sell it for $900.00 firm. I will not
consider time-payment deals. Some insensitive individual could even
consider regrinding to f5 at this price. Or it would make an interesting
folded scope if a high eyepiece position is not to your liking.
All I have for shipping is the original cheesey United Lens style carboard
shipping carton -- I can have a much nicer shipping container made for extra
$, or I can put it into a second large box for another $15. Buyer pays
shipping costs. It's in Albuquerque, NM, drop by and run a Foucault test if
you like.
Email if you would like some pictures.
